Why this matters

Regrowth Takes Land Back Fast

In Queensland, cleared country does not stay cleared. Wattle, camphor laurel, lantana and eucalypt suckers come away hard after every wet season, and what was open grazing two years ago becomes impassable scrub before you have had a chance to get back on top of it.

Once it thickens up, the usual options all cost you. Burning needs a permit, the right weather and a lot of nerve. Pushing with a dozer leaves you with windrows to deal with for years and topsoil pushed into heaps. Doing it by hand is slow and dangerous on the slopes most of this country sits on.

What we do

One Pass, and the Ground Is Usable

A forestry mulcher takes standing vegetation down through a rotating drum and turns it into an even layer of mulch across the ground. The material never leaves the site, so there is nothing to burn, bury or cart away, and nothing to come back and tidy up later.

That mulch layer does real work once it is down. It holds moisture through summer, protects the topsoil from erosion on sloping ground, and breaks down into the soil profile instead of sitting in a heap. We can take everything to ground level, or work selectively around the trees you want to keep.

How the job runs

No Runaround. No Surprises.

A straightforward process, so you know what to expect from quote through to completion.

  1. We inspect the property

We walk the property with you, listen to what you need, and assess the ground, access and vegetation. Then we explain the best approach and provide a clear quote with no pressure.

  2. You get a clear plan

We match the right machine and setup to your property, whether it’s steep, wet, rocky or heavily timbered. You’ll know how the work will be completed and what to expect.

  3. You get clean, usable ground back

We complete the job to the agreed standard, leave the mulch spread evenly and make sure there’s nothing left for you to clean up. The result is ground you can use straight away.

The cost of waiting

Regrowth Only Gets More Expensive

Putting mulching off for another season, or getting the wrong gear in, usually leads to:

  • Stems thickening past what a mulcher can take cleanly, which pushes you into far dearer excavation or dozer work
  • Lantana and other weeds seeding across country that was still recoverable last year
  • Fuel loads building against sheds, fence lines and boundaries ahead of the fire season
  • Windrows and burn piles from cheap dozer work that you are still working around in five years

Straight answers

Good Questions — Here's What to Know

How thick can the timber be before mulching stops being the right option?

As a rule of thumb we mulch stems up to around 200-250 mm through the butt comfortably, and heavier material more slowly. Past that it is usually cheaper to fell and mulch, or to look at tree clearing or excavation instead. We tell you which way is better value when we quote — we would rather send you to the right method than sell you the wrong one.

Do I need a permit to mulch regrowth in Queensland?

It depends on the vegetation category, the property and what the work is for. A lot of routine regrowth control, fence line and firebreak work falls under accepted development codes, but mapped remnant vegetation does not. We work to the vegetation codes and will talk you through where your block sits, but the approval itself always stays with the landholder.

What does the mulch layer do to the property afterwards?

It holds moisture, shades out weed seed while it breaks down, and protects topsoil on sloping ground through storm season. Grass comes through it without any trouble. On heavier clearing jobs the layer is thicker and takes longer to break down, which is worth factoring in if you are planning to plant straight away.

Can you mulch around trees I want to keep?

Yes, and it is one of the main reasons people choose mulching over a dozer. We can take out understorey, lantana and regrowth while leaving mature or habitat trees untouched. Mark what you want kept before we start, or walk the block with us and point it out.

How much ground can you cover in a day?

It comes down entirely to density and terrain. Light regrowth on flat, open country moves quickly; heavy lantana on a steep slope is a fraction of that. We give you a quote based on the block rather than an hourly figure, so you know the cost before we start.
